Hiding Tells

Do you ever have that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the nearest betting house, to come across a great stakes casino game of Holdem, to sit at a Blackjack table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I love to scratch it.

I also like to watch men and women gamble. No two poker faces seem equal. When I gamble I like to believe I put on a poker face which is impassable. But I know I’ve certain actions. For one, the only time I smoke is when I play poker or Blackjack. And then I smoke. Except I chain smoke no matter whether I am winning or losing, whether I have a good hand or bad.

I once wagered within a weekly poker game. The game was always five card draw. There was a guy who bet with us every week who often wore a hat. When he was dealt a very good hand, subconsciously, he would start touching and wagering with his hat. Needless to say, he by no means won.

The very best poker gambler I ever saw was a person who manufactured much more movements and gestures at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was flawless in the way he dressed. Often an costly suit and tie, shoes shined and nails manicured. He was meticulous in this manner. And he was always brushing his pants or holding his hands or putting his chips in neat little piles.

I use to examine him for hours. I would attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Selecting lint off his jacket- did this imply he was bluffing? Arranging his chips within a short pile – did this mean he had a excellent hand?

Several years later I bumped into him inside a bar in Chi town and we had a beverage. I asked him if he were aware of all those motions he made or if they have been unconscious. He informed me that each and every little thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everyone is always checking out everybody else’s poker face. They’re trying to notice the the tell.

So his system was to provide them lots to think about. His reasoning was if they have been thinking about him selecting a piece of lint off his shirt and what it meant they certain were not pondering about their cards.

His system was distraction. And it worked for him. By no means give up a process that operates for you.
