Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed betting on various card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played countless hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he possibly could boost his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and concentrate more on the game.
The actual advancement in his game began when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently play against each other. He was able to access a number of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would sharpen his cunning thinking skills. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer moved to Sin City in 1993 and participated in money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
